Evolving Leantime’s Plugin Marketplace: New Pricing for 2025

TL;DR:
– Plugin pricing more deliberate and flexible
– Price reduction across the board

When we launched the Leantime Plugin Marketplace a year ago, we were stepping into new territory. As an open-source project, introducing paid plugins was a significant shift, and we weren’t quite sure what to expect. Over the past year, we’ve learned invaluable lessons from our community about how teams of different sizes use Leantime, what they value most, and how we can better serve everyone from individual users to enterprise teams.

Today, we’re excited to announce a complete revamp of our plugin pricing structure – one that reflects everything we’ve learned and, for most users, represents a significant price reduction.

What We Learned

The biggest insight from our first year? Project management isn’t just for teams anymore. We’ve watched as users leverage Leantime not just for work projects, but for personal goals, home renovations, and side hustles. The line between personal productivity and project management is blurring, and our pricing needed to reflect this reality.

We also discovered that our one-size-fits-all approach to team sizes wasn’t serving our community well. Some of our most active users are individuals or pairs collaborating on projects, while others are managing teams of 50+ across multiple departments.

The New Pricing Structure

Our new pricing model introduces several key changes:

  1. New Personal Tier (1-3 Users) We’ve introduced a new Personal tier specifically designed for individuals, couples, and micro-teams. Whether you’re managing home projects with your significant other or working on a side hustle with a friend, this tier makes our plugins accessible without compromising on features.

  2. More Granular Team Sizes We’ve refined our team size brackets to better match real-world usage patterns:
    • Personal (1-3 users)
    • Starter (6-10 users)
    • Small Team (11-25 users)
    • Growth Team (26-50 users)
    • Business (51-100 users)
    • Enterprise (101-250 users)

  3. Price Reductions Across the Board We’ve significantly reduced prices for most user tiers and plugins. For example, our Program Management Plugin, which previously cost $240 for up to 10 users, is now available starting at $49/year for the Personal tier and $99/year for the Starter tier.

  4. Complexity-Based Plugin Pricing Understanding plugin pricing shouldn’t require a decoder ring. We’ve categorized our plugins into three tiers based on their complexity and the ongoing maintenance they require:
    • Simple Plugins (like our Pomodoro Widget) are straightforward tools that enhance your workflow. They require minimal updates and typically interact with a single aspect of Leantime.

    • Medium Complexity Plugins (such as Custom Fields or Recurring Tasks) interact with multiple parts of Leantime and require regular updates to maintain compatibility as Leantime evolves. These plugins often need more frequent maintenance and testing across different use cases.

    • Advanced Plugins (like Advanced Authentication or Strategy Pro) are sophisticated tools that often integrate with external services, handle complex data operations, or provide enterprise-grade features. These require the most maintenance, regular security updates, and extensive testing with each Leantime release.

This tiered approach ensures that plugin pricing reflects not just the initial development effort, but the ongoing work required to keep each plugin secure, compatible, and regularly updated.

  5. The Developer Freedom License. We think software licensing is broken. So we fixed it. When you buy one of our plugins, it’s yours. Period. Not a subscription. Not a rental. Yours.

Now, we can’t stop PHP from evolving or predict every change in the technology landscape. That would be bananas. But here’s what we can do: offer you a simple choice.

Every year, we push the boundaries of what these plugins can do. We solve compatibility issues before they become your problem. We innovate. We perfect. And we offer all of that to you through annual update passes.

But—and this is the important part—we never force you to take them.
Your code. Your timeline. Your decision. This isn’t about maximizing our revenue stream. It’s about respecting what the open source community has always stood for: freedom, ownership, and control. We just found a way to make that sustainable.

We maintain ownership of the plugin code itself and you are bound to the number of users in your license. But the decision of when to update or which features to use? That power stays in your hands.

We think that’s not just a better licensing model. We think it’s the only one that makes sense for developers who actually build things that matter.

    That’s what we believe in.

Supporting Sustainable Open Source

As a small team maintaining an open-source project, finding the right balance between accessibility and sustainability is crucial. The new pricing structure reflects this balance – making plugins accessible to individual users and small teams while ensuring we can continue investing in Leantime’s development and support. Each plugin price includes not just the feature itself, but our commitment to maintaining it for your team’s long-term success.

What This Means For Existing Customers

Nothing is changing for existing subscriptions, you can continue using your existing subscription or update to a new plan at the end of the next billing cycle.

Looking Forward

This pricing update is just the beginning. We’re working on new plugins, better integration options, and more features to support both personal productivity and team collaboration. Our goal remains the same: making professional project management accessible to everyone, from solo developers to enterprise teams.
