Introducing the Leantime MCP Server: What should I work on next?

You know that feeling when you’re juggling three different projects, your brain is scattered across a dozen tasks, and you just want someone to help you make sense of it all? Like, “Hey, can you just tell me what I should work on today and why it matters?”

Well, we just made that happen.

The thing nobody talks about with ADHD and project management

Here’s what nobody tells you: the hardest part isn’t getting the work done. It’s knowing what to work on, when to work on it, and remembering why it matters in the first place.

I can’t count how many times I’ve stared at my task list thinking “Where do I even start?” or “Wait, why was this important again?” Our brains work differently, and most tools just… don’t get it.

So we built something that does.

Meet our MCP Server

We’ve created a bridge between AI assistants like Claude and your Leantime workspace. Think of it like giving your AI assistant direct access to your projects – so instead of copy-pasting task lists or trying to explain your project status, you can just ask:

“What should I focus on today?” “Which of my tasks are actually urgent?” “Can you break this overwhelming project into things I can actually do?”

And it knows. It has context. It gets your whole situation.

We didn’t just expose our API, we created tools that made sense in the context of AI giving your LLM the power to make decisions and recommendations effectively.

This is what we built it for

When you’re overwhelmed: Instead of drowning in your task list, ask “Show me everything due this week and help me prioritize.” Your AI assistant pulls up exactly what matters, formatted in a way that makes sense.

When you need to break down big scary tasks: You know that project that feels too big to start? Ask “Help me turn this into smaller pieces I can actually finish.” The AI can create subtasks, estimate effort, and even schedule them so you’re not staring at a mountain anymore.

When you lose track of the big picture: “Remind me why this project matters and where we stand.” Get a full overview that connects your daily tasks back to your actual goals – because context is everything for our brains.

When you’re context-switching between projects: “Find all my high-priority stuff across everything I’m working on.” No more hunting through different projects trying to remember what’s urgent.

The part I’m most excited about

It’s not just another integration. This thing actually helps you think through your work. It can see patterns, suggest priorities, and remind you of connections you might miss when you’re in the weeds.

For those of us whose brains work differently, having an AI assistant that understands our whole project context? That’s not just convenient – it’s life-changing.

Ready to try it?

The MCP Server plugin is live in beta in our marketplace and on our SaaS versions. Fair warning: it’s still beta, which means we’re actively fixing things and making it better based on what you tell us.

But honestly? Even in beta, this is already changing how I work. And if you’re anything like me – if you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by project management tools that weren’t built for brains like ours – I think you’re going to love this.

Grab it from the marketplace and let us know what you think. Check out how to integrate it in our documentation. Seriously – hop into our community and tell us how it’s working for you.

Because this is just the beginning of what’s possible when AI actually understands how you work.

P.S. – If you run into any issues or have ideas for making it better, don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re building this together.
